Culture and Heritage
The historical and cultural heritage of the Moray Firth embraces Neolithic, Pictish, Celtic, Viking, Medieval and Jacobite associations. More recent heritage includes the Highland Clearances, the herring boom (the area has the largest collection of fishing communities in Scotland), the Hanseatic League sea trade, the legacy of two World Wars and the oil boom.
This rich and diverse history is to be found in archaeological sites, historic buildings, museums, trails, interpretation centres and events, all around the coastline.
