Community Grant Scheme 2003

The following projects were awarded grants in the 2003 MFP Community Grants Scheme.

Portmahomack Harbour Action Group

"The Paraffin Lamp" - erect brass / bronze plaque with history of paraffin street lamps as part of project to record and preserve part of history of first street lighting


Cromarty Boat Club

"Renovation of Tower" - project to renovate former military control tower at Cromarty Harbour to provide boat club storage (basement), shower/toilet/washer drier facilities for visitors to moorings on main floor, plus meeting room / boat race control viewpoint.


Freswick Community Hall

Freswick Beach Clean Tractor hire and diesel for rubbish collection and refreshments for volunteers.


Brora Harbour Users Association

"Brora Harbour Slipway Renovation" removal of existing slipway which has broken surface and slopes too steeply, by new, shallower slipway


Friends of the Moray Firth Dolphins

Cetacean Watching Workshops 2003". 3 workshop week-ends at Nairn, Fraserburgh and Burghead, offering schools, local groups, clubs and individuals the chance to learn more about cetaceans, their habitat and the environment.


Inver & District Community Cl.

"Replanting Wild Flower Area" - (in area of path refurbishment project MFP grant aided in 2002). Cutting back grass, tidying area, sowing wild flower seeds and planting shrubs and trees


Whitehills & District Comm.Cl.

 Whitehills Harbour to Banff Harbour Coastal Pathway - Provision of interpretation boards


Lossiemouth Comm.Cl

Lossiemouth Harbour Wall Mural - to resurface wall and encourage local youth to create a mural, encouraging sense of "ownership" to reduce levels of graffiti.


Deveron, Bogie & Isla Rivers Charitable Trust

"Salmon goes to School" - educational project to supply salmon eggs and rearing tanks to primary schools to help children learn about life cycles, environmental influencs, conservation, biodiversity, angling etc.


Findhorn Village Heritage Co

"New Interpretive Displays in Heritage Centre" - to provide materials for 15 new display boards, to display new material with emphasis on natural and environmental heritage to complement existing historic heritage material.


Findhorn Fairway Committee

"Visitor Moorings and Buoyage Improvement" - provision of two visitor boat moorings and safety navigational buoyage.


Cetacean Research & Rescue Unit

"Boat Trailer for Whale and Dolphin Rescue Boat"


Portsoy Maritime Heritage

"Liberty" - to replace engine and fittings of the traditional boat "Liberty" for use as a safety boat and escort/tug


Fraserburgh Heritage Society

"Fraserburgh Sea Harvest" - Conservation and Living Traditions - new display for Heritage Centre


Caithness Countryside Volunteers

Sinclair Bay Beach Clean, at Sinclair Bay, Caithness


Burghead Headland Trust

Viewpoint Indicator Board


Buckie Community Council

Buckie Arts Festival - 6 week arts programme for schools and community groups based on coastal theme, to develop pieces to be programmed into the festival week.
