Engaging with Young People and Business

As part of a wider communications and member / volunteer development strategy, this programme of work, part-funded by Talisman Energy (UK) Ltd, has enabled us to look at ways of improving communication and create practical opportunities for people to get involved.

The aim was to work with local Rangers and youth group organisers to provide opportunities for young people to learn about and care for an area of the Moray Firth coast, and at the same time encourage them to achieve a certificated "Wild Places" Award through the John Muir Award scheme.

We also promoted opportunities for businesses, groups and individuals to achieve their own goals of team building / corporate responsibility / personal development by identifying tailored events that will also benefit the Moray Firth environment and biodiversity.

Activities in 2011/12 included school visits with talks and local activities. The MFP "Beach Guardians" Beach Clean Kit and Sea Chest were loaned out to various groups, as well as the "Under the Surface" banners. Two schools visited in year, with talks and beach cleans carried out. We also assisted the beach clean at Redcastle near Kessock

Throughout the year we developed a portfolio of local coastal activities that includes specific leadership, communications, problem solving or other corporate / personal development elements, to engage with businesses and provide benefits to participants and the local area.
