Community Market![]() Ferintosh Community Council is supporting the development of a monthly Community Market, to be held in Findon Hall, Culbokie. The Community Council is supporting this initiative by paying the hall hire costs for the first 6 months to trial community demand for this type of service. The proposed dates for the Markets are 17th May, 21st June, 19th July, 16th August, 20th September and 18th October. Any local residents or businesses are very welcome to add to the market at any time by selling their own produce / services (food or non-food), fundraising for local needs, encouraging the participation of local folk (perhaps through music or the arts), or even just helping out on the day. We envisage that the sale of tea / coffee etc throughout the morning will be a key part of the event and would like to offer this particular fundraising opportunity to all hall user groups (Findon, Ferintosh & Mulbuie) on a rota basis; your group can keep all the money it raises on the day. You are therefore welcome to take part in the market in any way or just come along on the day and support the stallholders. We’re keen to hear your ideas for making this a true community event. We very much hope you will become involved, because community participation is vital for the success of this project. If you have any queries, or would like to book a stall, please contact Margaret Currie, Culbokie on Tel: 01349 877223 Email: andyscott_6@hotmail.com or Hazel Gordon, Balnabeen Tel: 01349 877289 Email: hazel@finds-scotland.co.uk ![]() The vision is to give consumers an attractive choice alternative in buying food by establishing a network of local village markets that offer fresh tasty food and other local produce with regularity, quality and a sense of community. Context: Consumers increasing concern for sustainability particularly in terms of · locally grown food · the methods by which food is reared or grown · general lack of choice offered by increasing supermarket dominance Basic model: Operating a periodic market to run fortnightly in any given location selling a range of generally local food in a relaxed community atmosphere. Produce would be supplied by ourselves from our farm and other local producers/wholesalers. This presently includes fruit and veg, garlic lines, eggs, cheese, bread, preserves, coffee, chocolate, tablet and seasonal meats. Local producers/processors in any given location would be very much encouraged. So far the pilot has been running in Kirkhill Primary School very much to the advantage of the school, allowing them to develop their enterprise and eco-school credentials as well as offering a platform for relaxed interaction with parents and with the community in general. The workforce is drawn from local adults, primary pupils and Inverness High School pupils. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
