Fish Industry Training Association - Mare Nostrum ProjectThe Fish Industry Training Association (Highlands & Islands) Ltd (FITA) http://www.fita.info/"www.fita.info has partnered with fisheries colleges and other institutions in several EU countries to develop a new opportunity that is a first for the UK: the Mare Nostrum Project funded by the Leonardo scheme. Its aim is to pilot learning modules that will form a short qualification for Fisheries Development Agents. The one-week course will run from 20-24 August in Inverness. Many of the speakers (or Topic leaders) will be Seafish, or Seafood Scotland, or FITA staff, with some guest speakers from Industry and other bodies. The emphasis is on innovation and latest developments. It will be a seminar-style group, rather than a passive theatre-style meeting, held in the board room of the European Information Centre on Castle Street, Inverness, in the centre of the city. Delegates are invited to attend for one or more days, but priority will be given to those attending for the full week if places are limited; and FITA ask delegates to attend for at least one full day in order to be included in the field visit to the west coast. The venue is an upstairs room [no lift], and car parking is available in the city centre car parks a five-minute walk away. The course has no external Certification or Qualification as yet - but it is subject to independent External Evaluation for the EU project, and could be used in the future as a short course, maybe by Seafish. If anyone is interested in attending then please email Roddy McColl at and copy to Sally Moore Please feel free to circulate this information. |
